The Current Generation Chevrolet Impala

The latest Impala generation debuted in 2014, and there have been few changes since then. This current generation is distinctive for its aggressive styling. Plus, any model after 2014 might very well be equipped with the latest high tech features such as adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and the latest Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system. Under the hood of any late model Impala, you’ll likely find one of two engines:

  • A 195 hp 2.5L four-cylinder engine that is rated at 22 mpg city/31 mpg highway by the EPA.

  • A 3.6L V6 that makes 305 hp and 264 lb-ft of torque, which is capable of 18 mpg city/28 mpg highway.

Previous Generation Impala

The previous generations of the Chevrolet Impala were a little bit less distinctive in appearance, but they used a similar recipe of admirable performance and efficiency, plenty of interior space, along with a list of contemporary features. You won’t find quite as many high tech features—no preventative safety options such as collision warning features were available before 2014—but you’ll still find antilock brakes, stability and traction control, and previous iterations of the MyLink and OnStar systems. While the engine options are roughly similar to those offered today, you won’t see as much horsepower or fuel economy on models made before 2012.
