Have you seen the terms “active fuel management” and “dynamic fuel management” but aren’t sure exactly what they mean? These are efficiency systems integrated into 2020 Chevy Silverado engines. How do these systems differ? Here’s what you need to know.
Chevy introduced AFM to Chevy models to make vehicles more efficient and economical for drivers. This system alternates between eight- and four-cylinder modes and adjusts the power you need. It deactivates and reactivates cylinders when required.
Chevy then developed the more advanced DFM, the main difference being that it features 17 cylinder patterns. The system continuously monitors all movement from the accelerator pedal, allowing it to anticipate how much torque is needed. No matter which system your engine has, you should expect increased fuel economy and excellent performance.
You’ll find AFM on the 2.7L turbo, 4.3L V6, and 5.3L V8 engines. DFM is equipped on the 6.2L V8 engine is standard with DFM.
