Dodge Charger

The 2016 Chevrolet SS and the 2016 Dodge Charger are both large rear-wheel drive sport sedans that deliver premium features and plenty of performance. Either will no doubt offer lots of driving thrills, but how do they stack up, and which one will be the better buy for your needs? Find out below.

Powertrain and Performance

The Charger starts with a 3.6L V6 engine that makes 292 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. This engine is able to go from 0 to 60 mph in 6 seconds according to Top Speed. An eight speed automatic is the only offered transmission.

The Chevrolet SS gets a standard 6.2L V8 engine, capable of cranking out 415 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. That’s enough power to propel the SS from 0 to 60 mph only 4.7 seconds. The SS is available with a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission.

The SS is clearly quicker and more powerful than the base Charger model, and it offers a six-speed manual, which is not offered in the Charger.

The Chevy SS offers more front head room and leg room, and more rear head room. Overall, the Chevy SS offers 123.3 cubic feet of cabin space, compared to the 120.8 cubic feet of space in the Charger—so you’ll have more room in the SS. They have essentially identical cargo volume in the trunk.

Features and Options

The Chevrolet SS comes with many features that are not standard in the Charger. The Chevy SS gets standard navigation, heated seating, parking assistance, automatic climate control, leather upholstery, in-car WiFi hotspot, 4G LTE connectivity, and more. None of that is standard in the Dodge. The SS also gets the OnStar system that provides features like automatic emergency services, stolen vehicle assistance, and remote door unlocking. None of that comes standard in the Charger.
