The 2016 Chevy Express and the 2016 Ram Promaster are both utilitarian commercial cargo vehicles. You’ll find that they both move a lot of cargo, but beyond that, there are some major differences. Find out for yourself how these two vehicles compare, and then plan a trip to Mike Anderson Chevrolet of Merrillville to check out the latest iteration of the Express Cargo in person.

Powertrains and Performance

When you’re shopping for a commercial vehicle, we know you’re looking for something that can handle any tough job. The 2016 Chevrolet Express Cargo simply makes more power with essentially every engine available. The standard powertrain includes a 4.8L V8 that makes 285 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque; a 6.0L V8 is also available for 342 hp and 373 lb-ft of torque; a compressed natural gas variant of that 6.0L V8 is available, as well; and a 6.6L turbodiesel V8 rounds out the bunch to produce 260 hp and 525 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the 2016 Ram ProMaster is available with a 3.6L V6 engine that generates 280 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, while a 3.0L turbodiesel engine is good for 174 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Every model gets a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.

Another point worth noting is that while the EPA doesn’t’ rate commercial vehicles on fuel economy, the Chevrolet Express Cargo has a 31 gallon fuel tank, while the Ram model only has a 24 gallon fuel tank, meaning the Chevrolet vehicle should be able to go farther between fuel ups.

Capacities and Capabilities

When it comes down to dimensions, both of these vehicles can pack a lot—more than 200 cubic feet for cargo in the base model and over 300 cubic feet in long wheelbase configurations. The 2016 Chevrolet Express can be equipped with as many as 15 seats total, while the 2016Ram Promaster tops out at 12 seats. If you need to haul even more, the 2016 Chevrolet Express can tow up to 10,000 pounds when properly equipped, but the Ram Promaster can only pull up to 5,100 pounds.
