Performance,Engine & Fuel Economy

As the driving performance is primarily determined by a car’s engine, the 2018 Chevy Sonic has you covered. Both options give an excellent driving performance. The Sonic handles smoothly and accelerates easily. At no point does the driver feel as though the car is out of control. The Focus, however, can only be described as choppy. If compared to the Sonic, it definitely disappoints.

The 2018 Chevy Sonic has two different engines available, each of which is capable of giving an excellent driving performance and fuel economy. The first engine is the 1.8L 4-cylinder engine that gives 138 horsepower. The other is a 1.4L Turbocharged Ecotec engine that also gives 138 horsepower. Each engine has its own strengths and is known for being extremely dynamic. On the other hand, the 2018 Ford Focus has a 2.0L Ti VCT direct injection I-4 engine. While this engine is decent, it can’t truly compare with the Sonic engines.

Even the fuel economy of the 2018 Chevy Sonic is better than that of the 2018 Ford Focus. The 1.4L turbocharged engine gives a highway mileage of 37 mpg while the 1.8L engine gives a highway mileage of 35 mpg. Comparatively, the Focus performs poorly, with its 2.0L engine giving a highway mileage of 34 mpg.

Interior

The interior features of the 2018 Chevy Sonic put it in another class. Outfitted with a variety of technologies, no other vehicle in the same price range provides as many features as the Sonic. Its infotainment system is comprised of Android Auto, Apple Car play, 4G LTE WiFi Hotspot and Chevrolet MyLink. Along with a six-speaker audio system and a SiriusXM Satellite Radio, there is little more that people require to entertain themselves. Other interior features include Power windows, remote vehicle start system, auxiliary input jack, tire pressure monitoring system, cruise control and many others. The 2018 Ford Focus not only lacks almost the entire infotainment system, it doesn’t have most of the other features either.

Safety

The 2018 Chevy Sonic’s safety features give drivers and passengers a sense of security not available in the 2018 Ford Focus. Even the most basic model of the Sonic has 10 airbags, Brake Assist, Hill Start Assist, LATCH, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert, Rear Vision Camera, Rear Park Assist, traction control and a number of other features. The 2018 Ford Focus has only a fraction of these and can’t begin to compare to the 2018 Chevy Sonic.

Towning & Cargo

Even though the 2018 Sonic is compact sedan/hatchback, it packs a lot of power. This is showcased perfectly by its towing capability. The Sonic is able to tow up to 2773lbs despite its compact size. On the other hand, car reviewers say that towing is not recommended for the 2018 Ford Focus. This is a perfect example of the Sonic’s capability and dependability VS that of the Focus.

The 2018 CChevy Sonic also has a fair amount of cargo space. Despite being a compact hatchback/sedan, you can keep a lot of luggage in the cargo area. The Sonic hatchback manages to have 47.7 cubic feet of cargo by folding the rear seats 60/40 to increase your cargo area. The sedan has 14.9 cubic feet while the hatchback has 19 cubic feet of trunk space available. Both volumes are much higher than the space available in other compact cars. The cargo space available in the 2018 Ford Focus hatchback after folding the rear seats is only 43.9 cubic feet.
